Your Furniture Shows Your Style

Some people like to display classic furniture and antique furniture, showing the styles and tastes of times past. The pieces are usually very well made with heavy hardwoods and in some cases, a dark finish to preserve the wood from the damage of the sun. However, if the furniture remains indoors the amount of sun that shines into a home in a given day is not enough to damage the wood, so most people opt to remove the original dark finish and place a lighter coating of a finishing product on the furniture for esthetics in the home.

The best furniture pieces are the ones that are made with long-lasting, quality materials such as hardwoods or metals that can sustain everyday use without displaying damage, such as nicks or scratches or even broken pieces from the weight of a person using them or movement from one location to another. Soft metals are often used in some furniture in order to reduce the cost, but the longevity of the furniture is shortened due to the weakness of the furnishings. Setting furnishings on unleveled surfaces can cause problems with weight applied on side or another, putting stress on weakened furnishings with time that causes early breakage.

Choosing materials such as hardwoods for your furniture may be a little more costly, but well worth the investment in the long run since the woods last for many years if they are well maintained. Some people choose teak furniture for both indoor and outdoor use, since the wood contains natural oils that resist moisture as well as being one of the hardest woods known for furniture manufacturing. There are teak furniture pieces in existence today that are over 200 years old, being family pieces that have been passed from one generation to another.

Furniture is a matter of personal preference, whether you decide on classic furniture made of hardwoods and metal or newer designer furniture that is strictly metals with added padding or etched designs. The tastes and budget of the furniture shopper have a great impact on the choices in purchasing the furniture for home, showing personal style as well as being functional.
